Pôle Europe contemporaine

Pôle Europe contemporaine

This section analyses the profound transformations of contemporary Europe from the late 19th century to the present day, informed by the legacies of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. Faced with major upheavals due to total wars and the reshaping of international relations, as well as the emergence of new political dynamics such as liberalism, nationalism and socialism, contemporary Europe is undergoing profound transformations. The perspective of this research group is national, international and transnational.

Three major themes structure this research:

  • International relations and European integration: study of inter-state dynamics and European integration processes.
  • Material civilisation and globalisation: focus on the transnational circulation of ideas, goods and people.
  • Political practices and cultures: exploration of the diversity of European political regimes, from totalitarianism to liberal democracies.

The section adopts a national, international and transnational approach to shed light on contemporary issues in Europe.
